The rise of religious fundamentalism in the United States, combined with an anti-intellectual bias, have combined to raise the specter of the witch-hunt. It is well to be aware of the lessons of history that we avoid repeating the mistakes of the past. A look at the Salem witch-trials provide a salutary lesson for us all.
